What Draws Us to Y-3

Familiar Clothes, Another Possibility

We know the basic language of sportswear: the ease of a tee, a jacket that follows movement, a shoe built around the foot. Y-3 interests us because it asks what else that familiar language can do.

The collaboration between adidas and Yohji Yamamoto brings sportswear development into conversation with the designer's approach to clothing. We are drawn to the meeting itself: two ways of thinking working on the same object.

Look Past the First Recognition

Our attention moves toward volume, proportion, and the way fabric behaves around a person. We can ask why a sleeve feels generous, why a dark silhouette remains readable, or how a practical detail changes the whole outline.

Those are questions we can carry into our own looking. On a subway platform, a jacket lifted by movement may suddenly seem more interesting. An ordinary outfit can become a study in how shapes overlap.

The simpler settings of Minimal Clean give us another place to explore that attention, at the scale of the pieces we wear every day.

Keep Our Own Starting Point

Admiration does not require the same product, customer, or ambition. We can appreciate Y-3 and still begin a graphic with a photograph from an ordinary afternoon.

When we consider Today's Drop, we want the result to hold its own reason for existing. The influence is useful when it sharpens our eye: we notice movement more clearly, ask better questions about space, and return to our own ideas with something new to consider.
